Statement:

“I am running to safeguard the future of all of our families.” – Julie Willoughby

By asking for your support, I am asking you to believe in me; to put your faith in me. So I think it’s important that I share my “Why.”

My husband Brice and I have a two wonderful children. We are like many of you – a happy growing family living in the present but with a careful eye on the future. We moved our family to Chandler over 5 years ago because it offered everything we wanted for our family – lots of young active parents, safe communities, and plenty of parks all wrapped up in a lovely, family-friendly vibe. We were thrilled to be part of such a wonderful city!

Once we got settled in, we started considering the bigger questions. How do we ensure our family’s safety? How do we safeguard our access to the best possible education for our children? How do we protect our family business so that it continues to flourish and grow? These important questions and many others led Brice and I to a discussion about how we could become more vocal and involved. Always avid voters, we were keenly aware that every vote counts, but what about the things that don’t end up on a ballot? How can we raise our voice for ALL issues that impact our family and so many others?

After much discussion, soul-searching and prayer, the answer was crystal clear to both of us – we would run for the legislature, to protect the future of our family and yours. Brice and I have no doubt that this is the path God had planned for us all along, and we couldn’t be more excited to enter this new chapter of public service.

Thank you for taking time to learn more about me and thank you for your support!

Question Response Comments/Notes
1. Allowing all parents to use tax credits and publicly funded Empowerment Scholarship Accounts (ESA) to enable their children to attend any private school, homeschool, or online academy of their choice. S* Parents should have the right to decide what education is best for each of their children. We know education is not a one size fits all, and it is imperative to allow the parents to make the decisions about their children(s) education. No one knows their child's specific and special needs better than the parent themselves.
2. Requiring district and charter school officials, including teachers, to inform parents about their child’s social, mental, emotional, or physical health. S* If ANYONE learns of something in a child's life that could put them in danger or should be monitored, that information should immediately be presented to the family. Teachers, administrators, and other faculty come and go out of a child's life, parents are there and should be informed of all the things that are being discussed at a school with their child.
3. Implementing district and charter school policies to allow students and faculty to use the restroom, locker room, and shower room based on self-identification rather than biological sex. O* For the safety and security of all students and faculty we need to know who is where in the school.
4. Requiring signed permission from a parent before a district or charter school student may participate in any sexuality-related instruction, activities, or clubs. S* I believe this should go a step further to ensure that both parents sign a permission form before any instructions or activities are given to a child. This ensures any split or divided households are fully and completely informed at all times.
5. Requiring each district and charter school to post online a list of all curriculum and instructional materials being used in the classroom. S* Transparency in any business, company, school, facility, or etc. is the key to accountability and security for all of the people, students, and staff that are involved with the organization.
6. Enacting government regulation of the creed, practices, and curriculum of private schools. O
7. Requiring government-mandated testing standards for private school and homeschool students. O
8. Terminating Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) and School Tuition Organization (STO) programs. O* These programs are imperative to get the best education for each and every kid regardless of their academic abilities. These programs support families and allow students for a specialized learning environment that fits them best.
9. Permitting ESA homeschool students to participate in public high school athletic programs. S
10. Acquiring parental consent for district and charter school faculty and staff to refer to students by pronouns that do not align with the student’s birth sex. S
11. Making available books and instructional materials that include sexually explicit images and themes in district and charter school classrooms and libraries. O
